Why Color Matters in Commercial Landscaping
First impressions start before your welcome mat, and color plays a powerful role in shaping them.
At Avid Landscape, we believe that seasonal color plantings do more than beautify. When done thoughtfully, they signal professionalism, attention to detail, and pride of place. They can even align with your brand’s identity and create an inviting atmosphere that draws people in.
Whether you manage a corporate campus, retail center, or multi-family housing property, a vibrant, well-maintained landscape influences how tenants, employees, and visitors feel the moment they arrive.
The Benefits of Seasonal Color Plantings
🌸 Curb Appeal That Evolves with the Seasons
Rotating your flower beds with each season keeps the property looking fresh—no tired, fading flowers here. It’s one of the fastest ways to refresh your property’s vibe without major renovations.
🎯 A Signal of Professionalism
Clients and tenants notice when landscapes are well-kept and evolving. Seasonal color shows you care—and that you invest in quality and detail.
💡 Color Themes That Reflect Your Brand
We love helping clients select flower combinations that match their branding or mark seasonal events. From university colors (we love purple and gold!) to holiday-inspired palettes, we bring intention to every bed.
🧠 A Boost for Mood and Morale
Science says flowers make people feel good. And happy tenants are more likely to renew leases, visit frequently, and take pride in the space.
📷 A Marketing & Leasing Team’s Dream
Bright beds and colorful containers make for great photo ops—perfect for brochures, Instagram feeds, and online listings.
Planning Ahead: The Strategy Behind Seamless Rotations
Great seasonal color doesn’t happen by chance. It’s the result of smart planning, sourcing, and timing.
At Avid, we start prepping for spring color installs in March and April, shift to summer in May, then swap out displays again in September/October for a fall/winter display that lasts into January or February. We’ve found that combining fall and winter into one cohesive look works best—especially given the Pacific Northwest freezes.
Our team coordinates with growers in advance, ensuring we receive top-performing plants right on schedule. We also account for bloom cycles and region-specific conditions to ensure each display lasts as long as possible.
Summer Flower Favorites That Shine in the Pacific Northwest
When it comes to hot summers, we’ve got it down to a science.
Top Performers:
We regularly turn to impatiens, sunpatiens, geraniums, petunias, and begonias. Geraniums bring that upscale flair, while begonias and petunias please just about everyone.
The Supporting Cast:
Perennials like ornamental grasses and evergreens provide structure and reduce the number of annuals needed in each rotation.
Heat Tolerance Matters:
We prioritize flowers that can handle the occasional PNW heat wave, ensuring beds stay beautiful, not crispy.
Pollinator-Friendly?
With seasonal color, while we focus more on aesthetics and performance, we’re always open to custom requests for native or pollinator-attracting varieties.
Fall & Winter Flower Favorites That Last Through the Chill
As summer fades, we transition into a more resilient palette that can hold its own through the colder months.
Our go-to fall and winter combo? Pansies, ornamental kale, and dusty miller. Pansies bring cheerful color even in chilly weather, kale adds texture and volume, and dusty miller gives a soft, frosted contrast that looks great through December.
⛔ What We Avoid:
As stunning as cyclamen can be, it’s not a good pick for winter—they’ll melt at the first frost. We stick to pansies, kale, and dusty miller for cold-weather displays.
While we technically rotate beds for fall, we design them to last through winter, right up until we’re back at it in spring. And if you’re in a Husky-heavy area, you’ll often see purple and gold in the mix—we love tying school spirit into seasonal flair.
How Avid Landscape Brings It All Together
From the order process to the landscape bed, we run a smooth, prescriptive process.
We pre-order from trusted growers in Snohomish and schedule deliveries directly to our yard. From there, we install beds within a week—ideally just as blooms begin to pop. Our timing makes all the difference.
Before new plants go in, we pull out the old, till in compost, and apply fertilizer. And yes, every annual bed we install is irrigated. We pay special attention to focal areas like entry signs, monuments, and planters, where color makes the biggest impact.
It’s a hands-on, team effort—and the result is curb appeal that turns heads.
Long-Term Planning for Smarter Budgeting
Our seasonal color rotations aren’t a one-and-done service.
Most of our commercial clients opt into multi-season contracts with monthly billing. That consistency helps spread out the cost, simplify scheduling, and maximize ROI.
We also collaborate on redesigns when a space needs a refresh—whether that’s a new layout, fewer annuals, or adding height and structure with ornamental grasses or shrubs.
If you’re planning color for next season, now is the time to get started.
